Level 4
Object Pronouns
Learn to use pronouns naturally while consolidating past tense and communicating with more detail in everyday conversations.
This level is included with the Toani Membership. You do not purchase Level 4 separately.
Level 4 Object Pronouns
Level 4 is where your Spanish starts feeling more natural. Instead of repeating the same nouns over and over, you learn how pronouns are used in everyday conversations and how they connect with the verb.
You continue strengthening your use of past tense while learning how object pronouns, reflexive pronouns and other common structures work together inside complete sentences.
If you already feel comfortable talking about present and past events but hesitate when sentences become longer or include words such as lo, la, le or se, this is probably your next step.
If you are not sure whether Level 4 is the right place to begin, you can complete our online level assessment before joining the program.
Course content
In Level 4, you learn how pronouns work inside complete conversations. Rather than memorizing grammar rules, you practice using them while talking about real situations.
By the end of this level, you will have practiced:
- using indirect object pronouns such as me, te, le, nos and les;
- using direct object pronouns such as lo, la, los and las;
- combining two pronouns in the same sentence;
- using reflexive verbs more naturally in conversation;
- understanding and using common accidental expressions such as se me olvidó and se me cayó;
- using the impersonal se in everyday situations;
- continuing to compare preterite and imperfect in longer conversations;
- describing situations with more detail and greater fluency.
Object pronouns
One of the biggest changes in this level is learning how native speakers avoid repeating nouns. Instead of saying the same words again, you begin replacing them naturally with pronouns.
You practice these structures repeatedly until they become part of your everyday speech.
Past tense review
Pronouns are introduced together with the past tense you already know. This gives you more opportunities to compare preterite and imperfect while describing situations in greater detail.
Rather than learning isolated grammar topics, you continue building on the conversation skills developed in previous levels.
Everyday communication
Much of the practice focuses on situations that happen naturally in conversation: explaining what happened, giving information, solving problems, making phone calls and describing events involving other people.
How the course works
Level 4 follows the same learning sequence used throughout the Toani Program.
New structures are introduced gradually through complete examples, pronunciation practice, listening activities and guided conversations. The same patterns return throughout the course so you continue recognizing and producing them more naturally.
Pronouns are always practiced inside complete sentences. This helps you understand how they connect with the verb instead of memorizing isolated rules.
If you are taking Level 4 with a teacher, we'll tell you what to do each week as the class moves forward.
If you are studying independently, the lessons remain organized in sequence so you always know what comes next.
