How the Toani Program Works
The program takes you from building your first complete sentences to talking about everyday life, past experiences and more advanced ideas in Spanish.
Here’s how the program works.
The main Toani Program is divided into five levels. Each level focuses on the sentence structures, verb tenses, pronunciation and vocabulary you need at that stage.
You begin at the level that best matches your current Spanish. Complete beginners usually start with Level 1, while students who have studied before may begin at a higher level after reviewing the course descriptions or completing a placement interview.
Your Toani Membership gives you access to Levels 1–5, so you can continue moving forward without purchasing each level separately.
You can follow the program on your own, join a live Zoom class for additional guidance or combine both options. Once you reach Level 3 or already have enough Spanish to use present and past tense in conversation, you can also join the weekly Conversation Club on Zoom.

What you’ll learn in each level
The levels are organized around what you need to communicate at each stage, not around memorizing disconnected grammar topics.
Level 1
Foundation
If you are just starting Spanish, this is your starting point. You will learn to build useful sentences before studying long lists of conjugations.
- Express what you need, want and can do.
- Talk about future plans using simple sentence structures.
- Use common words and phrases used and heard in Mexico.
- Practice pronunciation and connected sounds from the beginning.
Level 2
Present Tense
In Level 2, you learn to talk about your everyday life, routines, interests and the people around you.
- Use regular and irregular verbs in present tense.
- Talk about habits, work, family and daily activities.
- Use reflexive verbs and common sentence patterns.
- Continue practicing pronunciation with complete sentences.
Level 3
Preterite
Level 3 helps you talk about what happened earlier today, yesterday, last weekend or at another specific moment in the past.
- Talk about completed actions in the past.
- Tell simple stories and describe personal experiences.
- Recognize past-tense verbs when you hear them.
- Prepare to participate in the Conversation Club.
Level 4
Object Pronouns
Level 4 helps you communicate with more detail and avoid repeating the same nouns again and again.
- Use direct and indirect object pronouns.
- Practice combinations such as me, te, le, lo and la.
- Explain more complex situations and communication problems.
- Continue strengthening past-tense conversations.
Level 5
Advanced Tenses
Level 5 brings together the structures you learned in previous levels and introduces additional ways to talk about plans, possibilities, instructions and more complex ideas.
- Review and compare past tenses.
- Use conditional and future forms.
- Give instructions and recommendations.
- Begin working with the present subjunctive in practical situations.
- Use different verb tenses together in longer conversations.
Why do the levels follow this order?
The program controls how much new vocabulary and grammar you work with at each stage, so you can practice using Spanish instead of only learning about it.
Start with complete sentences
You begin using practical sentence structures before trying to memorize every conjugation.
Practice pronunciation from the beginning
Listening and speaking develop together. You learn how words sound and how they connect in real speech.
Add one layer at a time
Present tense comes before past-tense storytelling. Pronouns and advanced tenses come after you have a stronger base.
Use vocabulary in context
You work with common words and phrases inside complete examples instead of memorizing isolated lists.
Review what you already know
Vocabulary and sentence structures return throughout the levels, giving you more opportunities to use them.
Move toward real conversation
The goal is not simply finishing lessons. The goal is becoming more comfortable using Spanish with other people.
You can study on your own or add live support.
Classes with a teacher are optional. You can use the Membership as a complete self-study program or add live instruction when it fits your goals and schedule.
Move through the program at your own pace.
There is no deadline for completing the levels. The time it takes depends on your previous experience, how often you study and how much practice you choose to complete.

Use the program from your computer, tablet or phone whenever you have time to practice.
Review previous lessons
Return to earlier levels whenever you want to review vocabulary, pronunciation or sentence structures.
Keep building from Level 3
Many students reach Level 3 in less than a year and begin adding regular conversation practice while continuing through Levels 4 and 5.
