Level 2 Present Tense

Level 2 Present Tense

Level 2 continues from the sentence structures introduced in Level 1. You begin using more present-tense verbs to talk about your everyday life, routines, interests and the people around you.

This level is for students who can already express simple needs and plans, but need more practice describing what they normally do, asking about other people and participating in longer conversations.

Level 2 can also help if you have studied present-tense conjugations before but still have difficulty using them naturally inside complete sentences.

If you have not completed Level 1, you can use our online level assessment to confirm whether Level 2 is the right starting point for you.

Course content

In Level 2, you combine present-tense verbs with the pronunciation, vocabulary and sentence structures you already started using in Level 1.

By the end of this level, you will have practiced:

  • how to use regular and common irregular verbs in present tense;
  • how to talk about your routines, work, family, interests and everyday activities;
  • how to ask other people about their habits, work and interests;
  • how to use reflexive verbs to describe daily actions;
  • how to describe people using common adjectives;
  • how to use ser and estar in everyday situations;
  • how to use the present progressive to describe what is happening now;
  • and how to apply pronunciation techniques to present-tense conjugations.

Present-tense conjugations

You learn the most common present-tense patterns one group at a time. The verbs are introduced inside complete sentences so you can see how they connect with words and phrases you already know.

The goal is not only to recognize a conjugation on a chart. You practice hearing it, pronouncing it and using it while talking about familiar topics.

Ser and estar

You begin working more directly with ser and estar. You practice how they are used when describing people, places, conditions and everyday information.

These verbs return throughout the course in different situations, so you can understand their use through repeated examples instead of memorizing a long list of rules all at once.

Reflexive verbs and daily routines

Reflexive verbs are introduced through common daily activities such as waking up, getting ready, sitting down and going to bed.

You use them to describe your own routine and ask questions about what other people normally do.

Vocabulary used in everyday conversations

The course introduces words and expressions related to routines, work, family, interests, descriptions and common activities.

Vocabulary is presented in context so you can connect new words with complete ideas instead of studying them as isolated lists.

How the course works

Level 2 follows a clear sequence. You begin with verb groups and sentence patterns that are easier to recognize, and then add irregular verbs, reflexive verbs and other structures gradually.

The same verbs and vocabulary return throughout the course in audio exercises, short conversations, quizzes and guided activities. This repetition helps you recognize the conjugations more quickly and use them with less hesitation.

You also continue practicing pronunciation. Present-tense endings can sound different when they connect with the other words in a sentence, so the audio exercises help you hear and reproduce complete phrases rather than saying each word separately.

You can complete the course at your own pace. If you are taking Level 2 with a teacher, we’ll tell you what to do each week as the class moves forward.

If you are studying independently, the lessons remain organized in sequence so you always know what comes next.

What happens after Level 2?

After Level 2, you will have more ways to talk about your daily life, ask questions and participate in conversations using present tense.

In Level 3, you begin talking about completed actions and personal experiences in the past. You learn how to describe what you did earlier today, yesterday, last weekend and at other specific moments.

The sentence structures, pronunciation and vocabulary from Levels 1 and 2 continue to be used, but now you begin combining them with past-tense verbs.

Level 3 is already included with your Toani Membership, so you can continue when you are ready.
